Health-care veteran named CEO of planned Rehabilitation Institute

Cassidy Hoelscher has been named CEO of The Rehabilitation Institute of Southern Illinois, BJC HealthCare and Encompass Health’s future inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Shiloh.

The 40-bed hospital, which is under construction at 2351 Frank Scott Parkway East, is expected to begin caring for patients in February 2022.

Hoelscher, who assumed the position on Aug. 16, 2021, will be responsible for overseeing the future hospital’s day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality. The hospital will provide 24-hour nursing care and physical, occupational and speech therapies to patients recovering from major illnesses and injuries including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and complex orthopedic conditions.

“Cassidy’s extensive health-care leadership experience at BJC HealthCare made her a perfect fit our new joint venture hospital in Shiloh, and I am confident she will be an incredible leader for our team,” said Mark Dwyer, Encompass Health Area chief executive officer for St. Louis and Southern Illinois. “Under Cassidy’s leadership, our team will help patients heal and find hope again through rehabilitative services customized for their needs and goals.”

Hoelscher is a familiar name to BJC HealthCare, as she has most recently served in multiple leadership roles at Memorial Care Center (MCC) for the past 10 years. She has served as the administrator since 2016, leading a team of more than 160 employees at the 82-bed facility, which provides patients with short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitative services. She previously served as director of rehabilitation services at MCC. Prior to her tenure at BJC HealthCare, Hoelscher served as program coordinator of therapy and licensed physical therapist assistant at Reliant Healthcare Management Company in Missouri, a private healthcare company specializing in helping independent facilities provide long-term health care for local resident.

“We are excited to continue our work with Cassidy in her new role with the future inpatient rehabilitation hospital, as she has proven to be an exceptional leader at BJC HealthCare,” Memorial Hospital President Mike McManus said. “I am confident in the leadership skills she will bring to the new hospital and look forward to working together to serve the residents of Southern Illinois.”

A licensed physical therapist assistant with 14 years of leadership experience, Hoelscher completed her associate degree in physical therapy and bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, both through Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She completed her master’s degree in healthcare administration from Webster University. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Illinois Nursing Home Administrator’s Association and the Illinois Healthcare Association.
