Celebration of Metro East area heroes will fill day Sept. 4

Planning continues for a daylong celebration of heroes to take place Sept. 4 at the raceway in Madison.

The Chamber of Commerce Southwestern Madison County is inviting the public to its
Celebrating Our Heroes with a Day of Rockin’Blues, Brew & BBQ.

The event is described as a celebration “of the people who kept us safe and healthy, who kept our store shelves stocked and our homes well furnished.” The day at World Wide Technology Race Track will offer events for the family and will be a recognition and thank you to those deemed essential workers.

The Chamber of Commerce Southwestern Madison County has grouped professions into eight groups and every hour on the hour, throughout the day, one of the groups will be recognized and thanked, starting immediately after the opening ceremonies at 10:45 a.m.

The Granite High School Marching Band with 115 student will kick-off the opening ceremony and London Kimble will be providing the National Anthem. In between the recognition and throughout the day there will be activities, music, crafts, foods, and brews.

The event and its activities have been planned, supported and are being implemented by the Chamber, its members and board and the local business community.

Visitors are invited to bring a lawn chair and spend the day, as part of the community, whether as one of the honorees, as a worker bee, as a volunteer, as a vendor, or as a resident wishing to thank those hundreds of people who work through the pandemic.

Applications for KCBS BBQ contest, the 5K Run /Walk by the Final Lap and applications for Small Business booth as well as craft booths can be found on the dedicated website www.rockin’bluesbrewsbbq.com There is no charge for these booths.
There will be a $10 parking charge per car or truck after 10 a.m.

The outline of the entire day follows :

8 a.m.: 5K Run / Walk conducted by Final Lap – the race will benefit United Way of Greater St. Louis

10:45 a.m.: The Opening Ceremonies will be kicked-off with 115 members of the Granite City High School Marching Band under the direction of Wyatt Roberds,
Director of Bands, Fine & Performing Arts Department.

– London Kimble will sing the National Anthem

– Invocation by Roy Boyer, Pastor Harvest Community Church

– Welcome by Ryan Robertson, chairman of Chamber Board of Directors

– Local mayors

The Opening Ceremonies will close with the Madison High School Marching Band, under the direction of Bernard Long Jr.
