Schnucks Edwardsville has free reusable bags to help prep customers for bag fee

The Schnucks store in Edwardsville is giving out reusable plastic and traditional paper bags to help prepare customers for the city’s 10-cent bag fee that takes effect on July 12.

The bags will be complimentary through Sunday, July 11, at the store, 2222 Troy Road. The bags are made from 40 percent recycled material and can be used up to 125 times.

Schnucks Edwardsville Store Manager Larry Hagen said: “We invite our customers to stop by through July 11 and have their groceries bagged in reusable bags that they can bring back on future shopping trips to our store.”

Beginning Monday, July 12, Schnucks will begin collecting the 10-cent bag fee for both the new reusable plastic bags as well as traditional paper bags.

Schnucks will not collect a bag fee from customers who participate in a state or federal food assistance program.
