Bost explains vote against creating a January 6 Commission
U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, R-Murphysboro, is telling constituents why he opposed formation of a January 6 Commission to investigate that day’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
The House on Wednesday approved formation of the commission on a largely partisan vote, 252-175, with 35 Republicans joining with every one of the Democrats who sided on the measure, which now goes to the Senate where it faces an uphill challenge.
Bost voted against the commission, splitting over the issue with fellow downstate Congressman Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, who sided with the majority. There were three members who did not vote.
Bost explained his vote in his weekly Bost Bulletin email, sent out Sunday afternoon.
“Let me be clear, those who committed crimes on January 6th should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I support the efforts of Congress, the Department of Justice, and the FBI to better understand how the attack on the U.S. Capitol took place and what could have been done to prevent it,” the email said.
“But if we are going to establish another investigative commission on top of the several committees and law enforcement agencies already examining this issue, then we should be taking a balanced look at the full scope of political unrest in our country, including the unrest and violence that took place in our streets months before the election. Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi has refused to do so; and for that reason, I could not vote in support of this commission.”

there’s a huge problem when a group of people are fed misinformation by an entity that considers what is said on their platform to be entertainment but their viewers consider it news. The same people get worked into a frenzy with misinformation and then listen and believe the craziness that the person who lost the election spews and attack the capital.
It used to be that the information generally presented by media outlets contained the same basic set of verifiable facts. as the editor of this publication should well know after his many years in the business, there’s no reason to put up with media and political people saying anything other than this was and armed insurrection of people that supported a losing candidate. there have been no widespread voting fraud issues brought to light and the misinformation still continues.
as much as Davis has always been an apologist for the losing candidate, he at least knows that his constituency is almost evenly divided and that to not vote for the commission would likely lose him the next election. The subject of this story obviously isn’t concerned about that..
it’s really too bad that no one ever pushes these candidates with questions that force them to clearly explain their reasoning when confronted with verifiable and vetted facts.
