An invitation is being made to small businesses in Southern Illinois to participate in the sixth part of a free Virtual Roundtable Series on exporting.
The Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at SIUE, in partnership with the Southwest Illinois Trade and Investment Council, has created the forum to discuss export challenges, where people can bounce ideas off regional exporting peers, and develop solutions for selling goods and services to international markets.
A 90-minute Zoom connection, “Gaining Sales Channel Partners for Exporting,” is planned Thursday, April 29, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Silvia Torres Bowman, director of the Trade Center, said finding a sales channel partner can be a pivotal business decision. Who and how you choose determines how your products are handled, the speed with which they are delivered and how successful you are.
Choosing the right distribution channels for your business can be a difficult and confusing process, whether a business is a small custom T-shirt design company or a giant producer of goods. The webinar will address key factors every exporter should consider when determining distribution channels. Here are some examples of questions exporters should be aware of as you develop your export business and marketing plan:
• Does my product have a shelf life?
• How large is the target market for my product?
• How large is the potential distribution company in the foreign country and what is its product mix?
• What is the status of the economy in the target geography? Will it aid my growth strategy?
• What is the cost of a specific channel of distribution?
