Update: Demolition of McDonald’s restaurant set to begin in Metro East

The demolition and reconstruction of a Belleville McDonald’s restaurant is set to begin on Thursday.

Jimmy Williams, owner/operator of 20 McDonald’s restaurants in Metro St. Louis, is rebuilding his restaurant at 906 Carlyle Ave.

The demolition is expected to take two days.

A gathering that includes Mayor Mark Eckert, Police Chief William Clay and operator Williams is planned for 8 a.m. Thursday. Events were postponed because of inclement weather on Monday.

The restaurant was first opened in 1979. The original building will be torn down and replaced with a new modern McDonald’s restaurant that features advanced drive-through and curbside pickup technology.

As part of the rebuild project, Williams will be partnering with Belleville East High School and Southwestern Illinois College to involve their architectural, business, and culinary students in the process and also provide a work co-op program for high school students.

A groundbreaking on the new building is to follow at to-be-determined date and time.

McDonald’s is the worse fast food restaurant ever for service! In the last 2 years I haven’t gone through a drive thru without missing something from my order!! If employees want $15.00 an hour we should be able to get our order correct and not something wrong with it every single time!!

Have had nothing but problems with this restaurant for over 2 years!!!!! Food is terrible!!! Either cold or not right!!!! And the state is offering $15.00/hr wage this job is for high school students. It’s poorly managed! I have even reached out to owner and could never get to him!!! Ridiculous that in morning when you go in enough time before work and have to wait.

I think this is fantastic news for our community – an updated restaurant for the East end, rather than an empty building. I especially love how the owner is going to incorporate educational opportunities for our high school and college students. I was sad to see it go down though; brought back a lot of memories.

I hope when this restaurant re open the service is better because they are horrible. Every time I have gone there the food has been so bad. I have never gotten hot fresh fries ever. The 2nd worst McDonald’s I have ever gone to. The worst being tucker ave downtown St. Louis
