More than 40 years ago, Prairie Cardiovascular was established with a vision to extend access to world-class care throughout rural Illinois. Since then, Prairie has grown to include more than 70 cardiologists and 50 advanced practice providers who care for patients in 50 clinic locations throughout central and southern Illinois.

The most recent growth is in Edwardsville. In January, Prairie joined HSHS Medical Group and HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Outpatient Therapy in a new building at 1188 S. State Route 157.

“The doctors of Prairie are pleased to join HSHS Medical Group and HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital to offer specialized care to the Edwardsville community,” said Dr. John Scherschel, president of Prairie Cardiovascular.

Frederick Ochieng’, MD, a cardiologist, Rebecca Riepshoff, PA, a physician assistant, and Lincoln Shenje, MD, an interventional cardiologist, offer consultations and follow up care at their new Edwardsville office.

“Thousands of lives have been saved as we expand access to high-quality cardiac care,”  Scherschel said. “Technology has changed rapidly over the last 40 years, and Prairie continues to be a national leader in innovation and development of new diagnostic and treatment procedures.”

The doctors of Prairie specialize in advanced, minimally invasive procedures that have fewer risks and quicker recovery times than traditional procedures. Prairie cardiologists work in cooperation with each patient’s primary care physician to ensure cardiovascular care is tailored to the patient’s individual needs.
