Several road projects planned in Metro East

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a series of road projects. Here is a review.

Illinois 255 between New Poag Road and Madison Avenue

Lane closures will take place on Illinois 255 between New Poag Road and Madison Avenue beginning on Monday, March 8, weather permitting.

Both directions will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.  This work is necessary to make bridge deck repairs and is expected to be completed by September 2021.

Drivers may experience delays when traveling through the work zone.  Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.

The contractor on this project is Stutz Excavating Co. of Alton.

 

Closures also planned on I-70

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced nightly lane closures on I- 70/270/55 between the I-70/270/55 interchange and 2.6 miles east of the I-70/270/55 interchange, beginning on Monday, March 8, 2021, weather permitting.  Both directions will be reduced to a single lane in each direction during the hours of 6 p.m. to 6a.m. nightly.  This stage of work is necessary to make pavement repairs and is expected to be completed by May 1, 2021.

This stage of work is part of a larger project that will include many additional lane closures.  The times and locations of future closures will be announced as the project continues.  The entire project is expected to be completed by November 2021.

U.S .50 from East of Crackerneck Road to west of St. Rose Road in Clinton County

IDOT announced that construction will resume on U.S. 50 from 1.0 mile east of Crackerneck Road to 0.2 miles west of St. Rose Road in Clinton County beginning March 1, weather permitting.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane and will be maintained using temporary traffic signals at Sugar Creek, 1.0 mile west of Aviston, and Lake Branch Creek, 1.5 miles east of Aviston. This work is necessary to complete structure repairs.  These repairs and final asphalt resurfacing are expected to be completed by July 2021.

The contractor on this project is The Kilian Corp. of Mascoutah.

Illinois 3 in Red Bud between Rock Street and Spring Street

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Illinois 3 in Red Bud between Rock Street and Spring Street will be closed utilizing a marked detour beginning Saturday, March 6, at 4 a.m., weather permitting.  This work is required to make pavement repairs to the roadway and Illinois 3 is expected to be reopened at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021.

The contractor on this project is E.T. Simonds Construction Co. in Carbondale.
