Edwardsville-based public relations and marketing firm Cork Tree Creative Inc. has launched a philanthropic initiative, Cork Tree Cares, aimed at helping local nonprofits and community need-based events through volunteer work and service.
The team’s first service project was making fleece tie blankets for Linus Blankets of Southwestern Illinois, an organization that has collected and donated more than 70,000 blankets to a variety of organizations. The blankets created by the staff at Cork Tree Creative will be delivered to Family Hospice and the Heartlinks Grief Center in Belleville, who is a longtime collection site for the Linus Blankets organization in this region. Linus Blankets and Heartlinks Grief Center are both programs of Family Hospice.
“We know there are a lot of non-profit organizations struggling due to cancellation of fundraising events in 2020 and as a result, the people they serve are in greater need than ever before. We wanted to put in action our desire to help these individuals and organizations by offering our time, service and support in various ways throughout the years to come,” said Laura Reed, co-owner and chief marketing officer of Cork Tree Creative. “We also recognize that this initiative empowers our already generous and community-minded staff to make it a practice to think about others and the needs in our community.”
Sarah Anderson, community liaison for Family Hospice, said she is thankful for the support of the community, the Cork Tree Cares initiative and the success of Linus Blankets.
“The growth of the Linus Blankets program shows its importance in our region, offering another level of care and support to people in need. Family Hospice is happy to be part of such a significant program in our community,” said Anderson.
Throughout the year, the entire Cork Tree Creative staff will be participating in quarterly community service outings at various locations, hosting collection drives and working together to provide support to nonprofits in need. Additionally, each team member will have the opportunity to select their own organization to serve throughout the year whether that be through volunteering or providing marketing support on a volunteer basis.
