O’Fallon community development director announces retirement

After 23 years of service for the city of O’Fallon, Community Development Director Ted Shekell has announced his retirement.

Shekell began his career with the city as director of Community Development, formerly called Planning & Zoning, in 1997.

“Ted Shekell directed O’Fallon’s Community Development Department through some of its most important, and fastest-growing years in history. There is not a building in town that was built after 1997 that Ted was not involved in,” said Mayor Herb Roach. “He has served with professionalism, expertise, and bravery. We owe him a debt of gratitude. The entire community will miss his leadership.”

During his tenure as director, O’Fallon’s Community Development Department coordinated the growth of over 3,000 new homes, 200 new office/commercial buildings, 14,000 new residents and over $2 Billion in private construction.

“It has been one of the highest honors of my life to serve the City of O’Fallon. It’s a wonderful place to live, work, and serve,” said Shekell.

Justin Randall, current assistant director of Community Development, will be named director of Community Development following the retirement of Shekell.

Ted is truly a professional public servant and an associate who I had the pleasure to know throughout his years with the City of O’Fallon
