Road to be shut down in Granite City for rail crossing work

A Granite City road will be blocked by roadwork in coming days.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says that, weather permitting, Maryville Road from Illinois Route 203 (Nameoki Road) to Mueller Road will be closed for rehabilitative work of the railroad crossing on Monday, Nov. 16, from 7 a.m. and continuing until Friday, Nov. 20, at 4:30 p.m.

The area is just west, or across 203, from the Southwestern Illinois College campus and will affect drivers attempting to go north from 203 on Maryville Road.

All lanes will be closed. A marked detour will be in place to safely guide motorists around the closure.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, and they should consider alternate routes, IDOT said.
