Partnership creating a family medicine residency, outpatient clinic in Alton
The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has been approved to begin a Family Medicine Residency Program at Alton Memorial Hospital and welcomes its first class of six residents in the summer of 2021.
“We are excited to be partnering with Alton Memorial Hospital and Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation in this program,” said Rebecca Hoffman, MD, MSPH, who will serve as program director. “These organizations have a long and rich history of providing education, care and service to the populations of the area, and our shared vision for education and patient and community care allow for many opportunities throughout our service areas.”
Resident physicians are receiving structured training in their specialty of choice. Family Medicine Residency is three years long and requires many patient experiences in different areas of medicine.
Resident physicians at AMH/SIHF will be under the supervision of experienced SIU School of Medicine faculty, attending physicians in other specialty areas at AMH, SIHF, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and in the community.
The SIHF office on the second floor of Medical Office Building B on the AMH campus will serve as the outpatient clinic for the program.
