Numerous road projects to watch out for on Metro East highways

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a number of projects underway, weather permitting.

Locally:

Illinois Route 158/177 in Mascoutah, between County Road and the junction of 158/177, will be restricted to one lane beginning on Monday, June 29.  Two-way traffic will be maintained using flaggers.  This work is necessary to complete asphalt resurfacing and is expected to be completed by the end of the July 2020. The contractor on this project is The Kilian Corp. of Mascoutah.

Illinois Route 37 from 0.5 mile south of Cross Street to the Jefferson County Line in Marion County, will be intermittently restricted to one lane beginning Monday, June 22.  The work will take place daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.  Traffic in each direction will be maintained using flaggers.  This work is necessary to complete pavement repairs, construct safety shoulders, and complete asphalt resurfacing.  Work is expected to be completed by early September 2020. The contractor on this project is Howell Paving Inc. of Mattoon.

Interstate 270 Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge, at milepost 2, will see lane closures for bridge inspection. They will take place in the following sequence: Monday, June 22, the westbound right ramp lane and shoulder will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, the eastbound right ramp lane and shoulder will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The ramps to and from Illinois 3 will remain open.

Clark Bridge in Alton will see lane closures for bridge inspection.  They will take place on weekdays from Monday, June 22, to Thursday, July 2, as follows: June 22 and June 23, the southbound right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. June 24 to June 26, the northbound right lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. June 29 and June 30, the  southbound right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. July 1 and July 2, the northbound right lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

U.S. 67 in Greene County between Grand Avenue and Simmons Street is now seeing lane closures. The work is necessary to do pavement repairs and is expected to be complete by June 26. The contractor is Kinney Contractors Inc. of Raymond, Ill.

Illinois Route 160 between Trestle Road and U.S. 40 in Highland, is being limited beginning on Monday, June 22, for placement of a new asphalt surface and is expected to be complete by mid-July. The contractor on this project is Charles E. Mahoney Co. of Swansea.

Illinois Route 160 between Illinois 140 and Grantfork is getting a new asphalt surface beginning on Monday, June 22. The work is expected to be completed by September. The contractor is Charles E. Mahoney Co. of Swansea.

Illinois Route 3 just south of Chester at the Mary’s River will be closed beginning on Monday, June 29, for bridge repairs that should be completed by the end of the July. The contractor is E.T. Simonds from Carbondale.
