Several new road projects slow traffic in Metro East

The Illinois Department of Transportation says several new road projects are underway in Metro East and advising motorists to be aware.

Eastbound Interstate 64 at Illinois Route 158 near Scott Air Force Base is intermittently restricted to two lanes through Saturday, May 16,  In addition; the on-ramp from southbound Illinois 158 to eastbound I-64 and the off-ramp from eastbound 64 to northbound 158 will be closed utilizing a marked detour. This work is required to make pavement repairs. The contractor on this project is Keeley and Sons. of East St Louis.

West Delmar Avenue in Godfrey, between State Street and Illinois Route 3 will be intermittently restricted to one lane beginning on Monday, May 18.  Two-way traffic will be maintained by flaggers.  This work is necessary to perform asphalt repairs and is expected to be completed by June 2020. The contractor on the project is Stutz Excavating of Alton.

Illinois Route 143 in Edwardsville, between just west of Oasis Drive and just east of Drda Lane, will be restricted to one lane in each direction beginning on Monday, May 18.  This work is necessary to construct a new asphalt surface and is expected to be completed by July 2020. The contractor on the project is the Christ Bros. Asphalt Inc. of Lebanon, Ill.

– Work will be encountered on the inbound Interstate 55/64 lanes approaching Poplar Street Bridge. The two inbound left lanes are being closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for expansion joint repair.  The two right lanes will remain open to inbound motorists during this work.

The work is subject to weather conditions, and alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
