The “Get to Know the Metro-East” campaign has announced its 2019 scholarship recipients.
The campaign doubled its recipients from previous years, awarding 12 area college students’ scholarships. Applicants were tasked with completing an essay outlining what they love most about our community and the Metro East. The Get to Know M.E. committee members selected essays that they felt exemplified the many benefits the Metro East has to offer.
“We are very excited for the 2019 scholarship recipients and want to congratulate them all,” said Carol Bartle, project manager of the Get to Know M.E. campaign. “We had many well-deserving students apply this year and it was a difficult decision to select only 12 individuals to honor with the award. We congratulate them and thank everyone that applied,” said Bartle.
Those awarded include: Zach Fillback (SIUE), Andrea Serna (Southwestern Illinois College), Demarco Brownlee (McKendree), Pourya Kargar (SIUE), Arajah White (Southwestern Illinois College), Lindsey Courtoise (SIUE), Evan Senat (SIUE), Brady Arnold (Southwestern Illinois College), Carmen Comejo (SIUE), Emily Ellis (SIUE), Hannah Parke (Southwestern Illinois College), and Olivia Middendorf (SIUE).
Each recipient was awarded a $2,000 scholarship check on behalf of the Get to Know the Metro-East campaign committee.
Get to know m.e. was formed to bring area organizations together to implement sustainable programs that improve area residents’ quality of life while also enhancing the image of the Metro-East as a great place to work, visit and live.
