Gov. J.B. Pritzker has appointed retired state Sen. Bill Haine of Alton to serve on the Illinois State Board of Elections.
Haine, like Pritzker a Democrat, most recently represented the Metro East region in the 56th District of the Illinois Senate from 2002 to 2018. Prior, Haine served 14 years as the Madison County state’s attorney and 10 years on the Madison County Board.
An attorney by trade, he clerked for the Illinois Appellate Court and practiced law before entering elected office. From 1967 to 1969, he served his country — and was decorated — in the Vietnam War.
After his Army service, Haine received his Juris Doctor from the Saint Louis University School of Law. He is also a graduate of Saint Louis University.
