Owner Jennifer Deschene has opened a massage and wellness business, Holistic Journey, at 7 Eagle Center, Suite 2G in O’Fallon.
The O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce helped celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 20.
Deschene is a licensed massage therapist with a diverse background in the field of massage and bodywork. She’s also a veteran with a history of chronic pain who said she has tried numerous alternative therapies over the last 16 years to manage her own physical condition. Her experiences with her own pain inform her approach to massage.
She said her goal with her clients is to help them relax, break the pain cycle, and reach a healthier state of being.
She encourages her clients to keep active and empowers them to live with greater ease and joy in their bodies. She blends techniques from John Barnes’ approach to Myofasical Release therapy, craniosacral therapy, Reiki, and integrative bodywork. She also incorporates vibrational therapy, crystal singing bowls, and a gong to help create a calm space, all in an effort to activate the parasympathetic nervous system to rebalance itself.
Deschene continues to study medical and orthopedic massage.
This summer she will be attending Thai Bodywork Fundamentals weekend workshop at Coaching the Body Institute, which helps gently move the body out of a place of pain and restriction.
