HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Women and Infants Center receives redesignation for specialized Perinatal Care

hshsstelizabethslogoHSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon has received Level II Perinatal Care Facility redesignation in affiliation with the Southern Illinois Perinatal Network and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Serving as a Level II Perinatal Care facility indicates that the hospital is prepared with the expertise and resources to meet the medical needs for infants as young as 32 weeks or 3.3 pounds. In addition, full-term newborns with breathing difficulties, jaundice or other medical conditions that require an intermediate level of care can also be safely treated because this higher level of care is available.

“We are pleased to have received re-designation as a Level II Perinatal facility for the metro-east region,” said Debra Meidel, nurse manager of Women and Infants Center. “This demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of infants requiring extra care, right here in our community.”
