Local courts have begun the process to fill an associate judgeship in the circuit that is comprised of Madison and Bond counties.
In accordance with Illinois Supreme Court Rule 39, David Hylla, chief judge of the 3rd Judicial Circuit of Illinois, gave notice to members of the bar that a vacancy exists — one created when former Associate Judge Sarah D. Smith was elected as circuit judge, effective Dec. 3.
Applications can be taken from any United States citizen who is an attorney licensed to practice law in Illinois and a resident of the 3rd Judicial Circuit. Applicants have a 30-day period after the notice of vacancy within which to electronically file with the director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts a signed application furnished by the director.

Electronic applications must be received on or before 11:59 p.m. Jan. 7, 2019. Written applications, whether mailed or hand-delivered, must be received in the Administrative Office on or before 5 p.m. Jan. 7. 2019.
