At age 60, Touchette continues to invest in region’s health care

p11 Touchette    Touchette Regional Hospital is a general acute care hospital offering integrated health-care services, women’s and newborn services, an expanded Emergency Department, a 30-bed expansion of the Behavioral & Wellness Center, and physical therapy services.
Also offered are wellness and education programs, senior housing, Home Healthcare, and a staff of medical specialists.
Touchette’s focus on integrated health care means that the whole person is cared for — both physical health issues and behavioral health issues. Touchette looks for underlying medical issues that could cause stress and anxiety as well as related matters like substance abuse that can cause physical health concerns.
Touchette has an integrated behavioral health program that bridges inpatient and outpatient care.
The hospital first opened its doors in 1958 as Centreville Township Hospital. Its mission was to offer accessible, affordable health care to all, and for 60 years, Touchette has been dedicated to maintaining that mission for the people and communities who rely on its services.
“We are proud to provide health-care solutions to our neighbors and fellow community members in St. Clair and this entire region,” said Sulbrena Day, RN, PhD, chief operating officer of Touchette Regional Hospital. “We are thrilled by the advancements made at Touchette that are allowing us to continue to grow, expand and break down the barriers that stand in the way of the quality, compassionate care everyone deserves.”
Touchette provides key community-based health-care offerings for patient services in the Metro East. The START NOW Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Program links women diagnosed with breast cancer with a patient navigator to help them understand their options and provide support through every step of the treatment process. The Seniors I.Q. (Improving Quality) Program helps elderly patients stay in the comfort of their own homes as long as possible by providing in-home health screenings, companion services and medical supplies. The Complete Care Diabetes Program offers individual and group education opportunities for those with diabetes to help manage and improve their condition.
A new sleep center opened in July to better serve community members with a myriad of sleep-related health issues. The sleep center was made possible through a partnership with Clayton Sleep Institute and a renovation to make room for two sleep testing / study rooms.
Additionally, $2.5 million is being invested in the hospital’s surgical wing with renovations expected to be completed in the winter of 2018. The emergency room recently underwent a $4.6 million renovation to improve the layout and floorplan to better serve both patients and providers.
Whether an individual needs emergency surgery, preventive services, or simply some health education and support — it’s all readily available, Day said. Touchette wants families and communities in the region to live happy, healthy lives. Making that happen starts inside the walls of Touchette, she said. That means a continuous effort to offer the community benefits of a medical system that provides comprehensive services and treats every patient with respect and dignity while delivering services in a convenient and courteous manner, Day said.
“The employees, physicians and volunteers at Touchette work together to create a welcoming environment with a focus on patient care,” added Day. “We hope our service exceeds your expectations and that we continue to be your choice or will earn your choice for care in the future.”
