IDOT to study coordinated signal timing along Route 3 through Columbia
The Illinois Department of Transportation says it will launch an updated signal coordination and timing study along Illinois Route 3 in Columbia beginning Monday, Oct. 22.
The traffic signal adjustments will be implemented at each signalized intersection along Illinois 3 between Interstate 255 and Illinois 158. These changes and initial fine-tuning should be completed by Oct. 26, weather permitting.
Both outside consultants and IDOT personnel will be monitoring the impacts these changes have on traffic patterns, delays and progression along this highway segment, which is used to access many of Columbia’s businessess. These efforts will also support the ongoing cooperation between the city of Columbia and IDOT District 8 at enhancing the safety along this heavily traveled roadway.
Signing changes, additional markings, rumble strips and enhanced enforcement have been applied in advance of this work. Additional electronic signage will be deployed to call attention to the signal modifications and will be left in place for an adjustment period.
