Hospital Foundation to honor Riley with Elizabethan Award
HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Foundation will present Michael R. Riley Sr., owner and President of Professional Therapy Services, Inc., with the 2018 Elizabethan Award.
The award will be presented on Friday, Nov. 2, at the 2018 Elizabethan Gala Fundraiser, and it recognizes Riley for his commitment to HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the future of health care in the region.
Riley has devoted his life to giving back to his community through both local and statewide service organizations. His love of service is a direct result of his education at Saint Louis University, where the Jesuit values of compassionate health care, faith, and leadership had a transformative impact on his professional life.
Today, Riley serves as a member of the Advisory Board for the Department of Physical Therapy at Saint Louis University, and has also served in a similar role for Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Catholic education has also played a very important role in his’s life. He has served as president of the school boards of Our Lady Queen of Peace and Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville.
For his dedication and devotion to Althoff Catholic High School, Riley was awarded their Values and Vision Award in 1999. The Okaw Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored him with their Distinguished Citizen Award in 2008 for his contribution to scouting and community service. Most recently, he was awarded the 2017 Alumni Merit Award from The Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University for outstanding achievements and contributions to his profession.
Riley is a lifelong supporter of HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and a true champion for St. Elizabeth’s in the community. Over the years, he has served on two of their highly successful major fundraising campaigns. He chaired the 2006 Major Gifts Campaign, which enabled the hospital to convert to digital imaging technology, and served on the Advanced Gifts Committee of the recent Replacement Hospital Capital Campaign. The total money raised for the hospital from these two campaigns alone was nearly $10 million. Riley and his wife of more than 40 years, Susan, have also generously supported multiple other campaigns and fundraising efforts for St. Elizabeth’s, including annual sponsorship of the Elizabethan Gala.
About the Elizabethan Gala Fundraiser
The Elizabethan Gala’s history spans 30-plus years. Originally known as the “Elizabethan Holiday,” the traditional fall event was transformed into a gala fundraiser in 2012. Since that time, the Elizabethan Gala has become St. Elizabeth’s Foundation’s signature event, raising more than $800,000 for programs and equipment at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
This year’s Elizabethan celebrates the first year at the new St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois. Held at the Regency Conference Center, the evening will feature cocktails and dinner, a short program, and dancing. All proceeds go to support St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
