HSHS Medical Group is growing at hospital, throughout Illinois

HSHS Medical Group and HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital are playing a significant role in growing quality health care services, both hospital and specialty-based, throughout Illinois.
One of the major projects recently completed is the new $330 million, state-of-the-art hospital in O’Fallon. St. Elizabeth’s offers 144 private patient rooms, an emergency department, computerized integrated surgical suites, and an advanced intensive care unit and inpatient rehabilitation. Additional inpatient and outpatient services include cancer care, modern birthing suites, telehealth consultations, award-winning heart care through a partnership with Prairie Heart and Vascular Institute of Illinois, and much more.
In addition to the new hospital, HSHS Medical Group Multispecialty Care is located on the O’Fallon campus.
When HSHS Medical Group was estab-lished in 2009, its primary goal was to bring
together physicians, advance practice pro-viders, technology and patients to improve the overall health of its service areas.
Today, the medical group continues to respond to the needs of the communities it serves through increased access to health care, delivered now by a multispecialty group of more than 460 physicians and advance practice providers in 100 locations in central and southern Illinois.
The foundation of the organization’s dedication to patient care is what is called patient-first care.
“Patient-first care means we always care for the patient first, put the  needs of the collective care team second, and the individual team member comes third,” said CEO Melinda Clark.
At HSHS Medical Group, leadership made up of an experienced physician and administrator working together to ensure that decisions that are clinical and financial are made together.
“Our dyad leadership has been a powerful tool for attracting candidates,” said President Loren Hughes, MD. “Our physicians and advance practice providers know they have advocates that understand the day-to-day work they’re doing as well as the ability to execute big-picture strategy that moves the organization forward.”
HSHS Medical Group is affiliated with Joslin Diabetes Center, the global leader in diabetes research, care and education. The medical group also employs experts in the field of neurosciences. Brain and spine disorders require very specialized skills to correctly diagnose and treat. HSHS Medical Group offers neuroscience care through locations in Springfield, O’Fallon, Decatur, Havana, Jacksonville, Litchfield and Shelbyville.
In addition to primary care, urgent care and multispecialty medical practices, HSHS Medical Group is constantly seeking new ways to increase access to care. One example is Anytime Care, a virtual care program that gives patients 24/7 access to care for non-emergent needs via a computer or smartphone, and a visit only costs $29.
HSHS Medical Group will continue to strive to provide patients the right type of care and access to physicians and advance practice providers at various points through an integrated team approach that gives patients more of a voice within their individual care plans.
