Steelworkers’ collective bargaining talks extended

U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers have agreed to an ongoing extension of the collective bargaining agreements that were due to expire.

All U.S. Steel facilities, including the Granite City division, continue to operate, the company said this weekend.

The contract was due to expire at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 1. The company said the extension “is in the best interest of our employees, customers, stockholders and other stakeholders.”

A rally was held last week by steelworkers in Granite City to draw attention to the contract’s expiration.
