Senior Services Plus

p12 Becker    Senior Services Plus, Pathway to Wellness Campaign is scheduled for completion by January of 2019 and will be open to the public. Senior Services Plus has engaged EWR/Farnsworth as the architectural firm, Sheppard, Morgan and Schwab Inc. as the civil engineering firm, and Impact Strategies as the general contractor for the project to support us in creating a free standing pre-engineered 9,928 square foot facility to expand our community Wellness Center.
Senior Services Plus (SSP) believes that a major component of healthy aging is access to affordable wellness and in 2007 developed a low cost alternative for individuals as they age to engage in preventative wellness activities.  This strategic initiative which started in 2007 with 24 pieces of equipment and 253 members has grown to a community wellness center with over 1,400 members, 54 pieces of equipment and 18 fitness classes. We currently operate our wellness center out of four rooms at our headquarters for a total of 4,008 sq. ft. for 1,400 members. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $2,200,000.00; we currently have $1,565,492.00 committed in cash and $292,438.00 in pledges for a total of $1,857,930.00. On October 24th, 2017 John and Jayne Simmons stepped up with an incredibly generous challenge gift of $400,000 for the Pathway to Wellness Campaign. All gifts will be matched dollar for dollar, including all pledges, gifts, grants and bequests. Since October 24th, we have raised $135,987.00 for the match. SSP is the only not for profit wellness center in Madison County providing this scope of wellness services to the community.
On average SSP serves 3,000 people a day through an enormous variety of programming that is designed to keep the seniors safe, healthy and living independently and with dignity in their own homes. In 2017, SSP has provided direct services for 26,314 seniors, including 335,477 hours of homemaker services for 959 seniors to remain living independently in their own homes. SSP delivers a total of 85,214 Meals on Wheels, for 966 seniors, and provides 24,920 free lunch meals for 1,277 seniors which is a third of their daily nutrition. The Foster Grandparent Program provides over 115 senior volunteers who volunteer 96,174 hours of volunteer service as tutors, mentors, or caregivers to improve the lives of 4,697 children. p12 SSPInformation and Assistance Specialists advocate for 4,676 seniors and people with disabilities with limited incomes by providing information and referral services to effectively access resources and benefits provided by Federal, State, and private and community organizations, plus avoid exploitation and scams.  In 2017, 522 seniors have been driven 91,670 miles and 1,400 community members accessed our low cost wellness center to improve their health and fitness. SSP has experienced ongoing growth in our services for the past 10 years. With over 10,000 seniors turning 65 every day until 2030 across the country we have seen a local increase for our services.
