Mathis, Marifian & Richter grows with new attorneys, offices

p04 Mathis Marifian Richter    The year 2018 has been one of continuous growth for law firm Mathis, Marifian & Richter. The firm was founded in 1984, when Patrick Mathis, George Marifian and Kevin Richter sought to open a law firm that would provide businesses and individuals with a better choice in legal representation. They framed the Belleville-based law firm’s business principles around the idea of broad experience with a regional focus. After 34 years in business, MMR continues to do just that all the while expanding its attorneys and legal services.
The law firm has recently added four attorneys to its practice, now totaling 25 legal professionals. Amy Randazzo became an MMR attorney at the end of last year. She focuses her practice in estate planning and administration, business law, and transactional work. In February, Allyson Schwab joined the firm as an associate attorney, and Clyde Kuehn joined as of counsel.  Both are working from the firm’s Belleville, Ill. office. Schwab is practicing litigation and transactional work, and Kuehn is serving clients in the areas of white-collar defense law, civil litigation, and appellate work. In May, William Asa joined MMR as a shareholder. He is working in the new Edwardsville office, and is serving clients in areas of debt collection, tax deeds, and commercial litigation.
To accommodate MMR’s current and future projected growth, the law firm recently moved into Mark Twain Plaza 1 in downtown Edwardsville, located at 101 W. Vandalia St., Suite 100. The new office offers extra square footage, enabling the firm to better serve its clients’ diverse legal needs throughout Edwardsville and the Metro East region.
MMR has also expanded its services in Missouri with its new Perryville, Mo., location. The office is located at 17 E. Saint Joseph St., Suite 102. Attorney and Perryville native Natalie Bachmann Lorenz as well as the entire MMR team serves the legal needs of businesses and individuals throughout Perryville, including business transactions, litigation, taxation, estate planning, banking and more. A majority of MMR attorneys are certified public accountants, hold advanced degrees in accounting or taxation, or have earned master’s degrees in business administration. They are also actively involved in the Taxation Section of the American and Illinois State Bar Associations, have served on the Illinois Secretary of State’s Business Acts Advisory Committee, and are frequent speakers and guest lecturers at business-related seminars presented by the Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
“We are grateful for the growth that MMR has experienced this year, and as a leading law firm, we will continue to look for ways to expand our group of talented attorneys to meet our clients legal needs,” said Patrick Mathis, shareholder of MMR. “I am confident that MMR’s diverse range of legal services paired with its broadly experienced attorneys will continue to make a positive impact on Southern Illinois and St. Louis metropolitan communities.”
While MMR has experienced many changes this year, its prides itself on maintaining a reputation as a respected and trusted law firm and continuously gives back to the communities in which it serves. The Mathis, Marifian & Richter Foundation as well as the firm’s shareholders, associates and staff donate thousands of dollars to local charities and organizations each year. The firm also is a proud supporter of the fine arts. Since 2011, MMR has sponsored the High School Sculpture in the City Program at Belleville’s Art on the Square. It also is a sponsor of the Edwardsville Art Center. Additionally, MMR annually awards three $1,000 scholarships to Metro East high school students who plan on pursuing a career in the legal profession.
