Glen Carbon hosting ‘Make Schon Park Shine’ kick-off party on Saturday

A development campaign to “Make Schon Park Shine” will kick off Saturday morning with a host of events aimed at drawing support for one of the community’s biggest, ongoing projects.

The free event includes family-friendly entertainment, bounce houses, face painting, and local businesses selling refreshments

It will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ray M. Schon Park located across the street from Village Hall in Glen Carbon at 156 N. Main St. in Glen Carbon.

Parking for the event will be available at the Village Hall or the Lutheran Church adjacent to the park.

The Ray M. Schon Park is approximately 36 acres of greenspace connected to the miles of bike and walking trails in the area. The vision to grow the park has been created with a clear development plan that includes restroom facilities, ball fields, playground facilities, courts and concessions. Each dollar donated will also be part of an increase in tourism dollars, property tax values and stronger economic development for the village and surrounding areas.

Saturday’s event is to kick-off the campaign efforts to raise funds and awareness for this initiative.
