Hospice will benefit from butterfly releases this month

A butterfly release that will raise money for HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois is planned by three area hospitals.

hshslogosquareHSHS St. Elizabeth’s in O’Fallon and HSHS St. Joseph’s in Highland and Breese are holding events this month.

Butterflies will be released in memory of loved ones on May 31 at 6 p.m. at St. Elizabeth’s, 1 St. Elizabeth’s Blvd. in O’Fallon. Guests are also invited to attend a short reception following the release.

“The butterfly represents the transformation of the spirit as our loved ones transition from this life,” said Ashley Dillingham, outreach representative for HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois. “We look forward to sharing in this special time with our community.”

Butterflies will be released on May 23 at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Breese and on May 30 at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Highland. Guests are also invited to attend a short reception following.

The event at St. Joseph’s Breese will be located on the grass area near the main entrance, and the event at St. Joseph’s Highland will take place in the hospital’s Franciscan Healing Garden.

Butterflies are $25 each, and there is no limit on the amount of butterflies you wish to purchase. All proceeds from the Memorial Butterfly Release benefit HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois. Orders for butterflies are due by May 11.
