FGM Architects designs buildings across the metro area in 2017

p12 Kwiatkowski    Being a part of the community fabric of Southwestern Illinois has been extra special for FGM Architects this year. Timothy E. Kwiatkowski, AIA principal and Southern Region manager, said the team was part of many building projects in their home towns.
In Edwardsville, FGM’s municipal team designed a new fire station that opened recently for the city of Edwardsville located on the campus of SIUE.  Also, with police and fire having outgrown their dated facilities, FGM helped the city develop a solution that would combine both departments into a new Public Safety Facility. FGM created shared spaces which include a lobby, community room and fitness room that are logically centered between the departments with access controlled doors. Both departments cohabitate while maintaining privacy and security for both the visitors and the staff.
Glen Carbon’s Police Chief Todd Link had this to say about the renovated Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) – think 911 call center: “FGM Architects took the time to assess the needs of our facility and design an efficient solution that will serve the needs of our growing community for years to come. From start to finish, they were always available for questions and were integral in the 100 percent successful completion of our project.” FGM designed this new space that serves both the villages of Glen Carbon and Maryville as part of Madison County’s PSAP consolidation effort.
FGM has been busy across the river as well having completed six major fire stations including facilities for the city of Wentzville and Maryland Heights. The firm also designed a new golf clubhouse and banquet facility for the city of St. Peters which will be constructed in 2018.
FGM’s long history and commitment to education offered a unique opportunity this year. In addition to its work with more than 50 school districts in Southern Illinois and Missouri, the firm was selected to design a new school at Fort Jackson, located in South Carolina, for the Department of Defense Education Activity.  FGM also assisted SIUE in the successful opening of the new north wing addition to the Engineering Building, originally designed by FGM, as well as the renovation of the Dental Clinic for the SIUE School of Dental Medicine.
A major part of FGM’s mission is to provide development for young professionals as they begin their careers. Because of their efforts, the firm was one of four firms in the Midwest named an Outstanding Emerging Professional Friendly Firm by the Central States Region of the Emerging Professionals Committee of the American Institute of Architects.
FGM Architects said it is proud to be part of the Southwestern Illinois business community.
