Horner-Shifrin, Parsons to team on I-270 river bridge replacement design
A team comprised of the engineering firms of Horner & Shifrin and Parsons was recently selected by the Illinois Department of Transportation to design the Interstate 270 Bridge replacement over the Mississippi River, connecting Illinois and Missouri in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
“Horner & Shifrin is proud to continue our partnership with Parsons and IDOT by leading a project of such high priority within our region,” said Steve Donahue, Horner & Shifrin president. “The St. Louis Regional Freightway has identified this project as one of the highest priority projects on their 2017 Multimodal Transportation List.”
“We’re honored to build upon our Phase I study of the project by bringing this replacement bridge to fruition in partnership with Horner & Shifrin,” said Mike Johnson, Parsons Group president. “This project will facilitate increased capacity for this vital link between the two states.”
Built in 1966, the existing 5,411-ft-long steel bridge carries two lanes of I-270 in each direction, and carries more than 51,000 vehicles per day in 2017, up from 19,800 vehicles per day in 1975.
