Centene Corp. names new president, other leadership appointments
ST. LOUIS — Centene Corp., one of the region’s largest public companies, on Thursday announced the appointment of a new president and several key executives that the company says will capitalize on its management depth and further its growth.
Cynthia J. Brinkley, currently executive vice president of Global Corporate Development, has been appointed president and chief operating officer. Brinkley joined Centene in 2014 as executive vice president of International Operations and Business Integration and was directly responsible for the successful integration of Health Net, the publicly traded managed care organization that became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centene on March 24, 2016. Most recently, she oversaw the company’s corporate development, specialized and international markets, and government relations.
Jesse N. Hunter, executive vice president of products, has been appointed executive vice president of Mergers & Acquisitions and chief strategy officer. Hunter joined Centene in 2002, and has held multiple positions of increasing responsibility in healthcare finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate development and operations.
Mark J. Brooks has been appointed executive vice president and chief information officer. Brooks joined Centene in 2016 as senior vice president and chief information officer, with responsibilities for development and implementation of all information technology and systems for Centene. Prior to joining Centene, he served as chief information officer for Health Net.
Kevin J. Counihan has been appointed senior vice president of products. Counihan joined Centene in 2017 as regional vice president of markets. Prior to joining Centene, Counihan was the CEO of healthcare.gov and oversaw the state and federal insurance exchanges in President Obama’s administration.
Michael F. Neidorff will remain chairman and chief executive officer. Brinkley, Hunter and Brooks will continue to report to Neidorff. Counihan will report to Brinkley.
All the appointments were effective on Thursday.
