More than 3,000 attend two-day open house at new HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital

stelizabethribboncutting1HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital welcomed more than 3,000 people over two days to tour the new $300 million facility in O’Fallon, Ill.

The hospital is located off Interstate 64 and North Green Mount Road.

In addition to the open house on Oct. 7 and 8, a ceremonial ribbon cutting was held.

Speaking to the crowd, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital President and Chief Executive Peg Sebastian stated, “This is truly a wonderful day in the long history of St. Elizabeth’s. With this new facility, our goal was to create a healing environment that combines technology and efficiencies to provide region leading, high-quality health care. This is a day to celebrate all the hard work and dedication that went into creating this beautiful facility, where we will continue our unrelenting pursuit of excellence and service before self as we carry the torch of our founding Hospital Sisters forward to our bright future.”

Other featured speakers included The Rev. Jim Thomas, St. Elizabeth’s Pastoral Care with the invocation; Mayor of O’Fallon Herb Roach; James Dover, president and CEO, HSHS Southern Illinois Division; Melinda Clark, chief executive officer, HSHS Medical Group and MarcShelton, M.D., president, Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants.

St. Elizabeth’s broke ground on the construction in June of 2015. The new hospital facility and medical office building is located on 120 acres.

The 144-bed inpatient hospital will feature state-of-the-art advancements in technology and upgraded patient amenities. An attached medical office building will provide a full range of outpatient services to meet the changing needs in health care. The interstate location provides quicker access to necessary health care for critical ambulance transport of patients from St. Clair, Clinton, Bond and surrounding counties.

The hospital is expected to stem the migration of patients to St. Louis-based hospitals and keep health-care dollars in Illinois, officials said.

Substantial construction completion occurred in August and both the hospital and attached physician office building will be open for patient care on Saturday, Nov. 4.
