By ROBERTA DUCKWORTH
The new truck service center and logistics operation facility for Dart Transit is nearing completion, reports Jim Mundy, design build coordinator and project executive with Contegra Construction Co. in Edwardsville.
Construction on the Gateway Commerce Center site is scheduled for completion by the end of November.
“Dart Transit is expanding their operations into this area,” said Mundy.
He said the new facility is expected to create more than 200 new jobs in the Edwardsville area within the next three years when finished. The company expects to hire 200 over-the-road truck drivers and 30 support personnel and service technicians.
Construction began on the 17,000-square-foot facility in May, with an estimated construction cost of $3.7 million.
The building is at 148 Enterprise Drive, which is west of Illinois 255, generally behind the Hershey’s warehouse.
The building includes a 10,000-square-foot service and maintenance area with six truck bays and 7,000-square-feet of office space on 23.5 acres. The office area will include offices, conference rooms, training rooms, drivers lounge and Internet café. The exterior will feature approximately five acres of paved truck parking area.
Construction of the concrete tilt-panel building is completed, and the interior partition framing is done. Remaining work includes the interior mechanical and electrical systems rough in and the interior finish installation for the office area.
Contegra Construction Co. has worked on other projects in the Gateway Commerce Center in the past, but this is the first time that they have worked with Dart Transit.
“They’ve been a great client to work with,” Mundy said.
