On break from session in Springfield, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, has been taking the time to visit local businesses in the community, recently touring Donco Electrical Construction LLC in Edwardsville.
“I think one of the best things about Donco is that it is a woman-owned company in a field that is typically male dominated, which allows them to really appreciate the hard work it takes to overcome the stereotypical gender roles that are still so present in our society,” Stuart said. “Donco is the perfect example of showing that women are able to do the same kind of work that a man can; they employ women engineers and electricians, and try to contract with other businesses that are women or minority-owned while providing high-quality services to the Metro East community.”
Donco Electrical was founded in 1974 and recently moved into a more open concept and updated workspace in order to foster communication throughout the workspace.
“Although the company has faced challenges from being a woman-owned company, they have been an extreme success in our community,” Stuart continued. “I will continue to fight for legislation that allows equal opportunities and equal pay for men and women in the state of Illinois. Every business of every size and in every community in our great state should have an equal opportunity to succeed and thrive in Illinois.”
An open house at the new location is being planned for 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 200 Lakefront Parkway, Edwardsville. No RSVP is required.
