ALTON – Big Muddy Adventures of St. Louis, in partnership with the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, is offering a series of half-day and full-day canoe trips on the river from Pere Marquette State Park to Alton.
Planned canoe trips include: Sept. 2, half day from Piasa Harbor to Alton Marina; Sept. 17 full day from Pere Marquette to Alton Marina; and Oct. 8 half day from Piasa Harbor to Alton Marina. The half-day trips are $65 per person and the full day trip, which includes lunch, is $90 per person.
“Paddling adventures on the Mississippi River has become a great way to experience our river region,” Brett Stawar, president of the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau said. “Big Muddy Adventures has developed guided trips down the river that capture the essence of the river and surrounding areas.”
The trips are planned in a 30-foot, 14 passenger wooden voyageur canoe, the modern version of the voyageur canoes used by fur traders 200 years ago.
Big Muddy Adventures of St. Louis also has a fleet of canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and dugout canoes for river tours in Illinois and Missouri. Big Muddy Adventures runs guided day and multi-day paddling trips on the lower Missouri River (from Hermann to St. Louis) and from the start of the free-flowing Mississippi in Alton to Caruthersville, Mo.
