State chamber plans workplace safety seminar for Southern Illinois employers

A seminar, “Addressing Workplace Violence & Effectively Responding,” will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Holiday Inn Express, 1000 Plummer Drive, Edwardsville.

illinoischamberlogosquareSponsored by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, it will be taught by attorney Patrick Sanders of SmithAmundsen LLC and Kevin Pennell of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The sessions will discuss how employers can navigate their way through the operational, security, and legal minefields to safeguard employees while avoiding liability related to workplace violence.

The topics will include daily workplace performance stress and anxiety; workplace intimidation and harassment; case law updates; legislative changes; a presentation and discussion of workplace security; employee monitoring/surveillance; drug testing; background checks; and more.

The cost is $249 for members and $299 for nonmembers.
