Father McGivney launches Momentum Campaign, plans open house

GLEN CARBON – Father McGivney Catholic High School has begun the public phase of its Momentum Campaign.

The capital campaign, which has been in the silent phase since November, is supporting academic, athletic and financial needs created by significant growth of the school over the past few years. The Momentum Campaign has already raised $1 million with a goal of $1.5 million.

fathermcgivneylogo“Father McGivney Catholic High School has seen tremendous growth over the last two years,” said the Rev. Jeff Goeckner, president of the school. “The growth is wonderful, but it also means we need to expand and develop our classrooms and campus to accommodate the growth.”

The expansion of the campus includes building out more classrooms, creating a band and choir room, and providing more private meeting space. The expansion also includes growth of the athletic program through the addition of a soccer field, baseball field, and weight room. The Momentum Campaign will also support students through the financial aid and scholarship programs.

The high school opened in 2012 in the north wing of St. John Neumann Catholic School. It quickly outgrew this space and moved into its current location in August 2015. The current facility was supported by a $5.1 million capital campaign, which engaged more than 1,600 local families. Students at the school have some of the highest ACT scores in the region, and the first graduating class from the school received more than $2.5 million in college scholarships, while the current senior class has already earned more than $6 million.

“We are extremely proud of our students,” Goeckner said. “We have seen students from Father McGivney get accepted to elite universities such as Notre Dame, Washington University, and University of Illinois. We want to continue fostering great academic success for our students, and need the space and resources to do so.”

Father McGivney Catholic High School will be hosting a public open house and media day from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23. Anyone interested in learning more about the Momentum Campaign, touring the school, speaking with student and volunteer representatives, as well as staff members, and seeing areas scheduled for renovation are invited to attend.
