Motorists on one of the region’s busier roads are about to be challenged.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says lane restrictions will be encountered in the southbound lane of Greenmount Road between Illinois Route 161 and Illinois 58/177 in Belleville, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning Friday, May 12, until approximately Sept. 30.
Flaggers will be present along the route to direct traffic through the closure while reduced to one lane. The lane closure is necessary to allow Ameren Illinois to install a natural gas line. Significant traffic delays are anticipated, and motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes.
Traffic control devices will be utilized to assist motorists making their way through the work zone. The department asks that travelers be patient and use extra caution near and through the work zone.
