Bliss Wellness in O’Fallon builds business around clients’ well-being

O’FALLON — Kari Skaggs, owner and operator of Bliss Wellness LLC, is closing in on a year in business at 220 E. State St., O’Fallon.

Skaggs is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Aroma Therapist and Reiki Level II Practitioner. She served 22 years in the United States Air Force and retired in 2014 out of Scott Air Force Base. Being a believer in the many benefits of massage therapy, she decided to take a year, go back to school at the Body Therapy Center and School of Massage (through Southwestern Illinois College) where she learned more about holistic wellness.

During school, Skaggs worked for a local chiropractor as an intern and after graduation worked several months as licensed massage therapist at a cross fit gym and a spa. After spending a year practicing her skills using various types of techniques and modalities, an opportunity crossed her path and she knew it was in perfect timing, so she decided to take a risk out of her comfort zone, broaden her horizons and open her own small business.

“Downtown O’Fallon was the obvious choice. The location, the client opportunity combined with the growing O’Fallon business community just made sense,” she said.

She opened the operation April 1.

“It was the absolute best choice for me and my practice. I am honored to work with my clients and see them progress and reach their individual goals. Seeing them use massage therapy as part of their regular health and wellness routine is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had — it simply warms my soul.”

Skaggs provides 60- or 90-minute customized, personalized massage sessions, and she is open by appointment only Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and every other Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Her goal is to support her clients in achieving life balance through massage therapy while providing a safe, relaxing, peaceful environment, helping facilitate healing, pain management and stress reduction.

“I take extra time getting to know each of my clients while establishing their goals and objectives,” she said. She also carries a small retail line of Cheryl’s Herbs Essential Oils, ZAQ Diffusers, Mother Earth Herbal Pillows, along with a few other special items to support other local small-business owners.

“I believe in supporting all of our O’Fallon small businesses. There are many choices in our community, even if you don’t choose me, I encourage you to find a local massage therapist to work with. We have many talented therapists around town who work together — O’Fallon has enough trained hands for everyone.”

Her intent is to keep massage therapy affordable to her clients so they are able to use massage as a regular practice. Her rates are $55 for 60 minutes and $80 for 90 minutes and she offers a 10 percent discount to military, students, teachers, counselors, nurses and first responders. A first visit is always $45.
