HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital infection manager named 2017 president-elect for Greater St. Louis APIC Chapter

BELLEVILLE – Carol Vance, infection prevention manager for HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital has been appointed president-elect for 2017 to the Greater St. Louis Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.

vance carolAPIC is the leading professional association for infection preventionists, with more than 15,000 members. Its mission is to create a safer world through the prevention of infection through education.

“On behalf of HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, I am honored to have been selected to serve as a leader for this regional committee, which strives to improve infection prevention education by teaching current and future IPs how to utilize best practices and data for efficiency and improved outcomes,” noted Vance (left)  “In 2017, our committee strives to increase public education about infection prevention for the health of our communities.”

Vance additionally serves on APIC’s National Education Committee, through which she has led a national educational webinar regarding a program to decrease Central line Associated Infections and Catheter Associated Urinary tract infections. She also was featured in the Spring edition of Infection Preventionist magazine, offered a poster presentation at the 42nd and 43rd Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Annual Conferences and also will be presenting at the Society of Health Care Epidemiology Associates (SHEA) conference in 2017 to focus on physician infection prevention. She also received APIC’s Hero Award in 2015.

Vance joined St. Elizabeth’s Infection Prevention team in October 2015 and since that time has been reinforcing best practices across the hospital, as well as overseeing infection prevention best practices for the replacement hospital which will open in fall 2017.
