O’Fallon seeks proposals to develop vacant land near sports park

O’FALLON, Ill. – The city of O’Fallon has issued a request for proposals from developers or organizations willing to purchase all or a portion of 45.7 acres of city-owned vacant land along Taylor Road, near the O’Fallon Family Sports Park.

The property along Taylor Road is positioned, city officials said, to serve the O’Fallon Family Sports Park, its continued growth as an economic driver for the city and the Destination O’Fallon Initiative.

When evaluating proposals, the city will consider the final price offered for the property in conjunction with the quality of the development proposal, compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood, and overall benefit to the city.

The deadline to submit proposals is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The O’Fallon City Council recently approved an initiative called Destination O’Fallon, which in part attempts to further the success of the O’Fallon Family Sports park. Destination O’Fallon will use increased revenue from hotel stays to upgrade the O’Fallon Family Sports Park to include eight to 12 all-weather, lighted soccer fields, in an effort to become a regional and national tournament location for soccer, lacrosse and rugby. The sports complex will include all-weather fields that could attract regional and national tournaments.

A 4 percent increase in the O’Fallon Hotel/Motel Tax will help fund Destination O’Fallon. An increase in O’Fallon’s Hotel/Motel Tax is being used so that out of town visitors, not O’Fallon residents, will pay for the community investments.
