Yearlong bridge project to get underway north of SIUE

The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that the southbound lanes of the SIUE Northern Access Road over Cahokia Creek will be reduced to one lane between Illinois Route 143 and New Poag Road beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 14, as part of a yearlong bridge repair project.

The lane closure will remain in place for approximately one month. At that time, the northbound and southbound lanes will both be reduced to one lane for the remainder of the project. This work is necessary to repair the surfaces of both bridges and is estimated to be completed by late fall of 2017.

Delays are expected. The department advises the travelling public to follow all construction signs and drive with caution through work zones.

The general contractor on the project is Keller Construction of Glen Carbon. John Adcock is the supervising field engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
