Ludwig appointed president of HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Hospital Sisters Health System today announced that John A. Ludwig, MHA, RN, has accepted an invitation to serve as the president at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

“With more than 28 years of successful health-care management experience, John’s leadership will advance our state-of-the-art capabilities at St. Joseph’s – Highland, and expand access to compassionate care throughout the surrounding areas,” said Mary Starmann-Harrison, Hospital Sisters Health System president and CEO.

“John understands the needs of our patients, the community, and our vision for Southern Illinois and the Metro East region,” said Jim Dover, HSHS division president and CEO. “His decades of clinical and administration experience at progressive hospitals throughout the Midwest and east coast will benefit our patients and colleagues, and will build upon our strong foundation at St. Joseph’s.”

Ludwig most recently was the chief operating officer of Bridgton and Rumford Hospitals – both 25-bed Critical Access Hospitals — in Maine. Bridgton Hospital was ranked a Top 20 CAH, and Rumford Hospital was named a Top CAH by iVantage Health Analytics. Prior to his COO roles, he was the chief nursing officer at Bridgton Hospital, and the administrative director at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis – an affiliate of SSM Health. He also worked at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Ludwig holds a Master of Science in health-care administration at Lindenwood University, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Saint Louis University, and is a licensed Registered Nurse.
