‘When Mental Illness Hits Home’ conference to be held


BELLEVILLE — The 10th annual “When Mental Illness Hits Home” conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, in the Visitors Center at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows

Topics include:

– “What’s Happening in St. Clair County: The Courts, Mental Health & Drugs” with presenter Brendan Kelly, St. Clair County state’s attorney;
– “Life Turned Upside Down: Telling My Story,” with presenter Heidi Hoffman, and
– “Winning Half the Battle: Knowing You Aren’t Alone,” with presenter The Rev. Salvador (Chava) Gonzalez, OMI.

Breakout sessions include “Hope and Help for Mental Health,” “Please God, Let Them Get Caught,” and “Why Won’t They Help Themselves? A Doctor Looks at the Noncompliant Patient.”

Illinois LCPC and LCSW continuing education credits will be offered to mental health professionals who attend the conference.

Conference sponsors are the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, Karla Smith Foundation, St. Clair County Mental Health Board and NAMI Southwestern Illinois.
