BELLEVILLE – Gopinath Gorthy, M.D. has joined West Belleville Health Center, 7210 W. Main in Belleville, Ill. as a psychiatrist in its Behavioral Health department, Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation has announced.
Gorthy (right) manages behavioral and mental health care for clients ages 18 and older with a special focus on geriatric psychiatry.
“My goal is to treat every patient holistically,” he said. “That means listening closely to each individual patient and only then making a diagnosis based on both their life story and the conditions they may be experiencing. For many of my patients, especially the underprivileged or those having trouble accessing healthcare, this is the first time they really feel listened to and respected in a psychiatrist’s office.”
Gorthy is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Psychiatric Association. He attended medical school at Kurnool Medical College in India, performed his general psychiatric residency at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington D.C., and completed his geriatric psychiatry fellowship at Saint Louis University in St. Louis.
Gorthy is currently accepting new patients at West Belleville Health Center, and appointments can be scheduled by calling 618-398-9850.
