SWIC CAD coordinator earns Master Instructor certification

BELLEVILLE — In addition to her many titles with the Southwestern Illinois College Computer Aided Drafting program – coordinator, professor, drafter – Shauna Scribner, Ph.D., can add “Master Instructor.”

Scribner recently earned the rank of “Certified Master Instructor in Mechanical Drafting” from the American Design Drafting Association.

“Achieving the ADDA Master Instructor in Mechanical Drafting certification shows area industry my commitment in providing students with the necessary training to succeed in a design drafting career,” Scribner said.

The ADDA is an international nonprofit organization, established in 1948, devoted to the science of graphic communications and the professional art of design, drafting, graphic arts, digital design and technical illustration.

This certification indicates that an instructor is meeting or exceeding the rigorous prerequisites set by the ADDA, validating abilities, skills, knowledge and ethics required by the industry to uphold professional standards. It also acknowledges the instructor’s desire to prepare future designers and drafters with the same expertise.

Earlier this year, Scribner was appointed to the ADDA International Board of Directors.

Scribner has been a faculty member at SWIC since 2002 and a member of the ADDA since 2004. At SWIC, she heads computer aided drafting courses. Additionally, Scribner is a Society of Manufacturing Engineers-certified manufacturing technologist and is an ADDA-certified drafter. She has more than 30 years of experience in CAD and manufacturing.

SWIC offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in CAD with three specializations: architecture, general and machine drafting, plus a one-year certificate. Depending on the chosen specialization, the student can learn manufacturing processes, green building methods and 3D architectural design.

The program is ADDA certified and SWIC serves as a testing site for mechanical and architectural certification exams.
