Memorial Hospital names Employee of the Year

BELLEVILLE — More than 425 Memorial Hospital, Memorial Care Center, Memorial Medical Group and Belleville Health and Sports Center employees were honored at this year’s Employee Recognition Dinner held May 6 at Fischer’s Restaurant in Belleville.

fritsche lindaLinda Fritsche (left) of Swansea was named Employee of the Year out of 12 candidates recognized as Employee of the Month throughout the year. She has worked at Memorial for 21 years and is a registered nurse.

Fritsche’s nomination described her as a “fantastic advocate and resource” for her coworkers; a team player who remains calm during stressful situations; and one who works to build strong relationships with patients and is always willing to lend a hand.

Her job duties include managing a team and assuming the roles of charge nurse.

“I have worked on 2 Center since the unit opened and have enjoyed working with staff and many diverse patients,” Fritsche said.

Other Employee of the Year finalists included: Betty Suemnicht of Belleville; Brent Williams of Alton; Karla Swift of O’Fallon; Shena Bills of Shiloh; Linda Sterr of Belleville; Magdalena Peery of Belleville; Missy Thurlow of O’Fallon; Jennifer Hill of Lebanon; Jake Smith of Granite City; Jill Doss of O’Fallon and Jessica Cantwell of Fairview Heights.

In addition to Employee of the Month awards, employees were recognized for years of service.

Paula Schlecht of Columbia and Mary Wetzel of Nashville were honored for 45 years of service. Ten employees were honored for 40 years of service, they include: Debbie Alberter of Swansea; Gordon Arras of Waterloo; Nancy Buckley of Swansea; Oscar Gain Jr. of Belleville; Ann Hampel of Carlyle; Susan Holcomb of Belleville; Ruth Holmes of Aviston; Debra Juenger of Millstadt; Marlene Luechtefeld of Belleville and Marilyn Preston of Collinsville. Employees were also honored for five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service.
