Bacon, ‘Schmacon’: Dierbergs offers a beefy pork alternative
From Illinois Business Journal news services
Dierbergs has what is being touted as “Beef’s Answer to Bacon.”
“Schmacon” has been introduced at Dierbergs Markets in the St. Louis area. The company calls it a tasty take on a food favorite that provides an appealing option for those who do not eat pork products, those who simply love beef, or adventurous eaters and creative cooks ready to try something new. Schmacon is said to have fewer calories, less fat and sodium and more protein than most pork bacons.
Among outlets carrying the product are stores in Shiloh and Edwardsville and many on the St. Louis side.
Schmacon is a smoked, seasoned, crispy whole muscle beef product. It is easy to prepare, cooks in half the time of raw pork bacon and has less calories, fat and sodium. Schmacon can be used anywhere traditional bacon can be used – as a breakfast protein, in side dishes and sandwiches, or as a topping.
