Major roundabout project getting underway in O’Fallon

From Illinois Business Journal news services

O’FALLON, Ill. – Mayor Gary L. Graham says construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Milburn School Road, Simmons Road and Fairwood Hills Road gets underway starting today.

Te initial work will not require any road closures, although delays could be encountered.

Full closure of the intersection is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24.

“We kindly ask our residents to be patient and considerate during this needed improvement project,” Graham said in a statement. “Once completed, this project will vastly relieve traffic congestion at this important O’Fallon intersection.”

The intersection is scheduled to be reopened no later than Aug. 5, with finishing work occurring until Aug. 31, when the project is scheduled for final completion.

A detour route for the full closure will be on Lincoln Avenue, State Street, Highway 50, Venita Drive, Frontage Road, and Old Collinsville Road.

The work will consist of storm sewer, curb and sidewalk installation and pavement construction, converting the existing intersection into a modern roundabout similar to the city’s other roundabouts.

Current updates for this, and other construction projects can be found on the city’s website at www.ofallon.org under Quick Links, Construction Updates. Information on roundabouts can be found at http://www.ofallon.org/street-division/pages/roundabouts-and-traffic.
