Sheppard Morgan & Schwaab marked award-winning year in 2015
By MELISSA CROCKETT MESKE Sheppard, Morgan & Schwaab, Inc. is a civil engineering and land surveying firm located in Alton with a history dating back to 1892. Providing services to clients for 123 years, SMS primarily serves Calhoun, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison and St. Clair counties in Illinois along with counties northwest of St. Louis in Missouri. This past year, three of the firm’s 24 associates received recognition for quality, professionalism and exemplary service.
John Ledford, a professional land surveyor with the firm since 2005, was awarded the Carter Jenkins Distinguished Service Award by the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association at its annual conference. The award recognizes association members who have enhanced the organization and the profession with outstanding service over more than 10 years. Ledford has been a professional land surveyor since 1981 and serves as SMS’ land survey manager.
The surveyors association also awarded a student scholarship to Evan Stutz, who is completing an internship with SMS and is a student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Scholarships are awarded to Illinois students pursuing a baccalaureate degree in land surveying or a related science who meet criteria such as participating in extracurricular activities related to surveying, community service, involvement in school activities, and maintaining a strong grade-point average.
Charles “Cas” Sheppard received the Silver Water Drop Award from the American Water Works Association recognizing 30 years of membership and significant contribution within the water industry. Sheppard’s work has helped to impact and maintain standards for quality within the field.
“It speaks to the integrity of our firm,” Sheppard said of the awards. “Customers are assured quality and consistency of service while working with experienced professionals that have been recognized for their acumen, integrity and trustworthiness.”
